Rotting Kingdom – „Rotting Kingdom”
EP (Limited Edition)
Godz ov War Productions

Rotting Kingdom is a new band from Kentucky composed of members of Tombstalker and other local musicians and their debut effort „Rotting Kingdom” is truly the epic point to what would be known as Melodic Death/Doom Metal. This EP is simply amazing. The songs envision something so truly epic, and the imagery of the words, coupled with the melody of the guitars from Clay Rice and Kyle Keener pulls off so well, as well as Brandon Glancy little triplet „slam” that he does, in addition to Chuck McIntyre impeccable playing the rhythm section, and Anton Escobar eerie if not haunting wail, contain the ability to just completely and utterly sweep you off of your feet. What is most remarkable about this work is its captivating dark melodies emerging within songs like despair ridden dreams, catchy but expressively sincere and immersive, „Rotting Kingdom” is a well-balanced record. While the songs generally function within a particular formula, there exists a healthy amount of variety in terms of pace and atmospheric shade for the music to maintain a high level of interest.
I love it when „simple” melodies and musical structures have a special character to them which somehow invokes a deeper meaning when the composition is presented as a whole, and this is a fine example of that phenomenon. I for one am firmly against the underrating of such musical forms. Not only is this album a magical combination of simple elements which adds up to more than the sum of its parts (I hate that expression!), it is quite an original piece, as no one can rightfully pin down its style or even maybe its influences. No one can call it doom metal, or death metal, or give it any kind of little sub-generic label. It can only be called metal, and metal is not a style but a way of life and a way of thinking.ting Kingdom approach relies on mood altering transitions and gloomy atmospheres created by melancholic lead melodies in simplistic arrangements of rock song form, which discourages technical disruption of emotional flow from the origins of death metal towards the realm of dark rock/doom metal.I love it when „simple” melodies and musical structures have a special character to them which somehow invokes a deeper meaning when the composition is presented as a whole, and this is a fine example of that phenomenon. Not only is this EP a magical combination of simple elements which adds up to more than the sum of its parts (I hate that expression!), it is quite an original piece, as no one can rightfully pin down its style or even maybe its influences. No one can call it pure doom metal, or pure death metal, or give it any kind of little sub-generic label. It can only be called metal, and metal is not a style but a way of life and a way of thinking.”Rotting Kingdom” is showing the freshness of a new band, a band just in its first steps, with no hint of their future, or what they would be doing next years , playing heavy music for their own fun, combined with all the elements that would make them in the future leaders of Atmospheric Doom / Death…we will see…
